RF microneedling delivers energy through fine needles into the skin and is also usually planned as a course. QuantumRF places the energy beneath the skin through an access point under local anaesthetic, and is generally planned as a single treatment.

That difference changes what you should expect. QuantumRF involves more preparation, more recovery and a fuller consent process than a surface treatment. If you were looking for something with no numbing and no recovery, this is not it, and a surface option may suit you better. Both types are available at this clinic, and which one is appropriate is decided at assessment.

How is QuantumRF different from FaceTite and BodyTite?

All three deliver radiofrequency energy beneath the skin, and all three come from the same manufacturer, so the overlap between them is real. The practical differences are the applicator, the depth reached, and the areas each is designed for.

FaceTite is directed at the face and neck. BodyTite is directed at larger body areas and is often combined with fat reduction. QuantumRF uses a cannula available in more than one length, which allows it to be used across a range of areas, and it is sometimes combined with one of the others in the same treatment plan.

Which is appropriate depends on the area, the degree of change present and your assessment. If you are comparing them yourself, the more useful question is which one suits the area you are concerned about, rather than which is best overall.

Whether any particular area is suitable depends on tissue thickness, the degree of laxity present and your general health. The areas to be treated in your case are confirmed at an in-person assessment rather than agreed beforehand.

Am I a suitable candidate, and can skin laxity be too advanced for QuantumRF?

Accepted Answer

Yes, laxity can be too advanced for it, and that is worth saying plainly. Energy-based tightening works best where laxity is mild to moderate, and the skin retains reasonable elasticity. As laxity increases, the change achievable with radiofrequency decreases, and beyond a certain point a surgical option becomes the more honest answer.

Treatment may not be appropriate if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an active infection or skin condition in the area, have a pacemaker or another implanted electronic device, have significant bleeding or wound healing problems, or take medicines that affect clotting. Metal implants in or near the treatment area also need to be discussed.

When will I see a change, and how long does it last?

Not immediately. Some tightening may be noticeable in the first few weeks, but the response depends on new collagen forming, and that process continues over months. Published work on subdermal radiofrequency describes change developing across roughly three to six months.

It is not permanent. Ageing continues after treatment, and how long any change lasts depends on the area, your skin, your age, and factors including sun exposure. Figures quoted online for radiofrequency longevity vary very widely, so any single number is worth treating with caution.

Your expected timeframe should be explained to you before you consent.

Does QuantumRF hurt, and what is recovery like?

Local anaesthetic is used, so the treatment itself is generally tolerable, although pressure and warmth are commonly described. Tenderness for several days afterwards is usual.

Swelling, redness, bruising and tenderness in the treated area are common, and how long they last varies between patients and by area. Larger areas take longer to settle. You may be asked to wear a compression garment, avoid pressure on the area, and postpone strenuous exercise for a period. Full aftercare instructions are provided and should be followed in preference to general advice found online.

There is genuine recovery attached to this treatment, so it is better planned well ahead of any event rather than close to one.

For QuantumRF, these may include redness, swelling or bruising in the treated area, temporary changes in skin sensation such as numbness or tingling, tenderness or discomfort, burns or blistering of the skin, changes in skin colour, infection at the treatment site, scarring, and uneven skin texture or contour.

Because the energy is delivered beneath the skin, thermal injury and contour irregularity are the risks that most warrant discussion. Both relate to technique and to the settings chosen for your tissue. Patients with more pigmented skin need particular care with energy settings.
